Back in early 2002 I entered a magazine contest
involving writing a short essay about WW2 (if I recall it was a thousand
words or less) with the winners being invited to the
Gathering of Corsairs at Mt. Comfort
Airport (east of Indianapolis) for a private morning to view and talk
with the owners and pilots. Much to my surprise my entry was chosen!
Many of the remaining VMF-214 pilots were also there for a poster and
picture signage event. My Dad and I were scheduled to go, however, back
trouble prevented Dad from making the trip. I took along Keith Felger, a
friend and work cohort, who is a fan of anything that has a Pratt and
Whitney in it. I've uploaded a few pics of that day. I proudly display
the poster with their signatures along with one from "Pappy" Boyington
himself addressed to my late father. |
